How to Set Professional Service Fees

CE accreditation has expired for this course, but you may still view the presentation.

In this on-demand recording of a 2020 AAEP Virtual Convention Table Topic with Dr. Monty McInturff and Dr. Jim Zeliff, the presenters share some of the tools they use to position themselves appropriately in the industry in regards to service fees. They discuss strategies that will help practices and solo practioners be both productive and profitable.

Questions asked and answered during the session include:

  • How do you determine your fees?
  • Building price points based on hourly rate plus equipment usage
  • Do you know your price point in the market?
  • Do you have access to a fee survey?

Also included in the discussion (and available as a .pdf in the resources section) is a anonymized fee survey that demonstrates various high and low fees for specific procedures and services.

“This program has been approved for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval; program #85-5801671.”  Non-medical Program, Non-interactive/Anytime.

In many jurisdictions, programs sponsored by the AAEP are considered valid CE regardless of RACE approval. Each state board has its own requirements regarding the number of online (also known as: distance, anywhere, non-interactive) credits that may be applied toward licensure. There may also be restrictions on the number of non-medical (i.e. business or wellness) credits that apply toward licensure. Enrollees in online CE should check with their state veterinary board for complete information.

Once you have successfully completed the course, you will receive a downloadable .pdf certificate of completion. This form is for your own records. DO NOT SEND TO AAEP. Use this record to help you meet license renewal or academy requirements. Your certificate will reside in your AAEP Anywhere dashboard: select “My Account” and then “My Certificates.” A copy of the certificate is automatically emailed to you upon completing a course. Store the emailed certificate in an easily accessible place for your records.

Documentation of this type for license renewal and tax deduction purposes is similar. The individual licensed veterinarian is responsible for the accuracy of his or her own CE records. A license renewal form is a legal document that cannot be falsified without risking the loss of your license.
